This story was inspired by something that happened while I was signing copies of my books at a local pumpkin patch. A family accidentally left behind a small pumpkin, and I watched it sit there alone for more than an hour. I began to wonder if its people would ever return.

As I was getting ready to leave, I decided that I would take the pumpkin with me and give it a good home. Then, at the very last moment, a ten-year-old girl came running back. She scooped up the little pumpkin and happily carried it away.

I was so glad to see that it had found its way back to where it belonged.

Sometimes, even a little pumpkin can have a very big adventure!

When Punkin’ bounces from Mr. McGhee’s truck, he finds himself lost, frightened, and far away from Mama. Luckily, Skeeter, Alexandria, and Rusty are nearby—and these three friends are determined to help.

With Punkin’ tucked safely inside an old wooden wheelbarrow, they squeak through Roaring Springs, searching markets, gardens, porches, and pumpkin patches. But as evening falls, Punkin’ begins to wonder if he will ever see his family again.

Inspired by a heartfelt moment at a local pumpkin patch, One Lost Lil’ Punkin’ is a warm autumn tale about friendship, kindness, and the wonderful feeling of finding your way home.

Perfect for little pumpkins everywhere—and everyone who has ever needed a helping hand.
